Abstract
Myxochelin A, a catechole siderophore with the stricture N,N-bis-(2,3-dihydroxybenzoyl)-lysinol, was isolated from a culture broth of Angiococcus sp. As a free radical scavenger, it exhibited DPPH radical scavenging activity with an IC_50 value of 4.9§¶/mL, which is about four times more active than vitamin E (19.2§¶/mL), and was comparable with that of BHA at a concentration of 10§¶/mL in the lipid peroxidation inhibitory assay as measured by the ferric thiocyanate method. It showed strong scavenging effects of 96 and 72% at 1 and 5§¶/ mL on hydroxyl and superoxide radicals, respectively.
